This is a new song I’ve written over the past year or so which has had a really interesting evolution. I wrote the gypsy inspired guitar chords while I was at home in Canada sometime last year and fooled around with them more as an exercise than anything else. I always found myself singing the “Ordinary Girl” phrase at the end of the sequence for some reason. While I was in California at the beginning of 2015, I started working on the lyrics to the rest of the chorus and finally settled on what I have now after several different incarnations. Once I got to Australia, I was too busy finding a place to live and getting acquainted that I wasn’t able to continue work on the rest of it. Once I was all set up in Melbourne, I began working out the verses and the solo which came together relatively quickly. Since then, I’ve been playing the song at most of my performances and busking adventures across the country to pretty much instant approval (which hasn’t happened much with many of my original songs in the past) so I am very excited about this one. Big thanks to Simon and Mike for your help on the audio/video recording process. I hope you all enjoy 🙂
Lyrics:
I’m at wits end, let it be said
Once you get this crazy you’re better off dead
Who will be my ordinary girl?
If her heart ain’t broke, its surely due
If her head ain’t crooked there’s a hole straight through
Who will be my ordinary girl?
I’ve been left all alone, can’t write another poem
Bleeding all these words of pain again
I see her there, but I won’t stare
I’ll find something to say
Like a wasp in her hair she flicked me away
Chorus
Maybe its me, it could be
I’m not a perfect man
But these apes she desires
I’ll never understand
They’re rude, mean, blind, swine, completely asinine
But they make a pretty dime
Their looks are certainly fine
Oh, woe is me
Maybe there’s still time for her to see
But until then..
Chorus
What’s the use, I’ve done all I can do
How can I be such a fool?
I’ve never been the one to play it cool
